Drinking and Niches Anyone?
Finding your “niche” is important. Your niche is defined as “a comfortable or suitable position in life or employment”. Well for college Aged students, being one myself I can speak on our behalf, sometimes our niche is drinking with friends. And wouldn’t it be so cool if we could connect on social media AND drink? If that sounds like fun, boy do I have the app for you. It is in the world of smaller niche platforms. Some of the amenities of a bigger app, but with a more direct audience and user. Beer Buddy is an app I was recently invited to by one of my classmates. It is a smaller community app that connects you with your friends while you drink. There are tons of features such as: notifying friends when and where you are drinking, inviting friends to drink with you whether it be at a location or just each of you in your home drinking, telling your friends where the party is and what you’re drinking and lastly the app has fun drinking games. With a similar set up to Snapchat, Beer Buddy attempts to gain its audience with a familiar social media layout but make it for a target specific audience/user. This provides such an opportunity for business collaboration with big alcohol companies all the way to local bars. The app also connects directly with your Snapchat and your Snapchat friends. You can post stories of your drinking scene or of your drink to a story of just your beer buddy friends. You can also invite your friends through Snapchat to join the fun. They use current design trends to stay relevant and continue to grow. According to their own app description, they have now amassed about 1 million users. They provide an opportunity for you to build new relationships with friends on two platforms. Both Snapchat and the Beer Buddy App.
During this crazy time that is a global pandemic. Beer Buddy provides a fun and lighthearted time for people to enjoy with their friends. They can still enjoy grabbing a beer with a friend, while social distancing on their couch at home. And right now, even the smallest things like that make all the difference.
